Book excerpt: Rooks have embraced science and technology, inventing microscopic robots called nanos to create any machine they need. The Terraquois are their opposite. They embraced the spiritual and developed a deep bond with nature. This bond allows them to shift into the animal that resembles their true inner selves. These two races have fought each other with brutal savagery for centuries, but a new threat called the Blak Army has emerged and its evil is matched only by its ruthlessness. With insidious, ancient power at the fingertips of their mad leader, Wilhelm Coran, their victory is nearly assured. The only threat to his plans are a Terraquois girl named Keiara and the Rook Prince, Rone Varlamagne. When Rone crashes near enemy lands after he is shot out of the sky, Keiara is the one that stumbles upon him. Instead of leaving him to die, she saves his life. It is one conscious choice but it sets in motion a chain of events bigger than either of them could imagine. Together, the two face foes from every direction and they will stop at nothing to protect each other.

Book excerpt: Hybrid Earth is set in a future where most of the planet's population has been merged with machines. These half-machine/half-human creatures are called Hybrids. In December of 2023, a coordinated terrorist attack on most of the world's nuclear power plants created a devastating fallout environment across 63% of the globe. Millions were killed but the survivors gathered in "safe zones" and went about the process of rebuilding the world. They started with trying to find a way to decontaminate the fall out. They put together a team of the most brilliant minds the world had to offer and came up with a solution. Nanobots. Billions of these microscopic robots were made to absorb radioactive particles which would, in turn, make the areas destroyed by fallout habitable again. The scientists ran hundreds of tests and simulations, all with excellent outcomes, and decided that the project was ready to implement. The nanobots were released into the areas effected by radiation and did what they were supposed to do. They absorbed it. After the absorption phase, however, things didn't go according to plan. Instead of heading back to a safely secured site for decontamination, the nanos dispersed themselves over the entire Earth. When they fell back down, they merged humans with whatever machine or metal they happened to be touching at the time. Hybrid Earth: Phoenix follows criminals, Ira Kelly, Ty Wilson, and Victor “VID” Daniels, as they are recruited in to a secret, HEA sanctioned agenda called the Phoenix Program. Their mission is to go undercover in New Genesis City’s shady crime groups and bring down the criminals from the inside. It’s either that or go back to the Null. Is there really a choice here?

Book excerpt: Blount, Thomas [1618-1679]. Nomo Lexikon: A Law-Dictionary. Interpreting Such Difficult and Obscure Words and Terms, as are Found Either in Our Common or Statute, Ancient or Modern, Laws. With References to the Several Statutes, Records, Registers, Law-Books, Charters, Ancient Deeds, and Manuscripts, Wherein the Words are Used: And Etymologies, Where They Properly Occur. London: Printed by Tho. Newcomb for John Martin and Henry Herringman, 1670. Unpaginated. Text printed in double columns. Folio (8" x 12"). Reprinted 2004 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN 1-58477-415-0. Cloth. $140. * Reprint of first edition. Blount was a member of the Inner Temple. Prohibited to practice at the Bar because he was a Catholic, Blount turned to legal scholarship and lexicography. Blount aimed to correct the defects he found in Cowell's Interpreter (1607) and Rastell's Termes de la Ley (1523). In his preface, he observed that Cowell "is sometimes too prolix in the derivation of a Word, setting down several Authors Opinions, without categorically determining which is the true"; Rastell "wrote so long hence, that his very Language and manner of expression was almost antiquated." He hoped that by correcting these flaws he would create a dictionary useful to everyone in the profession from "the Coif to the puny-Clerk." The Nomo-Lexikon is clearer and more detailed than its predecessors. It is also the first English-language dictionary with entries that include word etymologies and citations. An immediate success that quickly supplanted its predecessors, it was reissued in larger and revised editions throughout the eighteenth century.
